Aferim! was produced by Romania's Hi Film in coproduction with Bulgaria's Klas Film, Endorfilm from the Czech Republic and Romania's Mulberry Development, with the participation of Nu Boyana Film Studios, U-Film, Production XMG Media, Abis Studio and Division Camera. The film was made in association with EZ Films (France) and HBO Romania, with the support of Eurimages, Romanian National Film Center, Bulgarian National Film Center and the Czech Film Fund.

Jude's third feature is an ingenious Western in the wild East of the 19th century Romania, following a policeman and his son searching for a fugitive gypsy slave.

Beta Cinema also handled the sales of Călin Peter Netzer's Child's Pose (Parada Film) and sold it in approximately 35 territories. Both Child's Pose, winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in 2013, and Aferim! were produced by Ada Solomon.
