According to the regulations, producers of feature films, documentaries and short films have to apply for a preselection and a committee of six film professionals and five film critics will choose the nominations. Afterwards approximately 450 Romanian film professionals will vote to choose the winners in 18 categories.

Child's Pose by Calin Peter Netzer, produced by Parada Film, won eight Gopo Awards in 2014 including Best Film, Best Director and Best Leading Actress for Luminita Gheorghiu. Last year, due to the number and quality of films, Romanian Film Promotion, the organizer of the event, decided to award long and short documentaries separately.
