Romanian Journalists Vote Closer to the Moon Best Romanian Film of 2014

    BUCHAREST: Closer to the Moon, Nae Caranfil’s first English language film, was chosen Best Romanian film in 2014 by Romanian film journalists and critics. The ceremony took place on 30 January 2015.

    Caranfil was also voted Best Director. Starring Vera Farmiga and Mark Strong, Closer to the Moon is produced by Romania's Mandragora Movies in coproduction with Italy's Rainier Group, Poland's Agresywna Banda and France's Denis Friedman Productions, with the help of Michael Fitzgerald of the U.S. company Ithaca, which was financing the Romanian share. The film was supported by the Romanian National Film Center.

    Local film journalists and critics also voted Ofelia Popii and Florin Piersic Jr Best Actress and Best Actor for Andrei Gruzsniczki’s QED (Icon Production). Cristina Iacob’s debut indie feature #Selfie (MediaPro Entertainment Romania, ZAZU Film) received a trophy for the local film with the most admissions in 2014.

    Romanians also voted The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson Best Film screened in national cinemas, and Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty Best European Film in 2014.

    The event was organised by Asociaţia Fabrica de Evenimente with the support of CNC, and in collaboration with the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN) and the Romanian distributors.
