FESTIVALS: Romanian TIFF Opens Friday

    The 10th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival (www.tiff.ro ) will open on Friday, 3 June 2011, in Cluj, with 12 films screening in the main competition. The festival runs through 12 June in Cluj before moving to Sibiu, where it runs a shorter version 15-19 June. The festival also presents a section devoted to new Romanian productions, Romanian Days. FNE will publish profiles of the Romanian films in competition and in the Romanian Days section over the next week.

    TIFF will also present a Hungarian day, with screenings of seven films including Bela Tarr's The Turin Horse. Veteran Romanian director Lucien Pintilie receives an 11 film retrospective, covering films made between 1965 and 2006. Festival fans can also check out some of the up-and-coming young directors whose short films will be screened in the Ro Days Shorts.

    Additional festival events include four master classes on editing, social marketing, digital filmmaking, and production.
