Representatives from the global film industry will be able to not only explore the Lithuanian film stand, but also evaluate the newest work of five Lithuanian short filmmakers in a special market screening during the film market portion of the 35th short film festival in France.
“It would be true to say that Lithuania is often viewed as an undiscovered, unidentified, and maybe sometimes even exotic territory to the majority of international TV company representatives and producers; however, this by no means indicates that it is in any way inferior to its colleagues from abroad. This is exactly what we intend to show. Lithuanians show a tendency to create interesting and relevant dramas in which it is increasingly popular to philosophize and raise difficult questions. On the other hand, comedies appear to be a less common choice. This is what makes us different and attractive”, - says R. Daugelaite, the director of “Lithuanian Shorts”.
According to Rolandas Kvietkauskas, the director of Lithuanian Film Centre (LFC), the ever improving quality of Lithuanian films and the matured generation of short filmmakers and fans have made it possible for Lithuanian short films to find their audience at film festivals at home in Lithuania.
“We sincerely hope that participating in international film festivals will allow an international audience to discover Lithuanian films, too. “Lithuanian Shorts” has embarked on an important mission to assist the Lithuanian short film industry in introducing and establishing itself in an international arena”, noted the director of LFC.
At the Lithuanian film stand, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in exciting events and meetings with key players in the short film society including producers, TV programmers, and distributors. Stand visitors will be presented with the special catalogue “Lithuanian Shorts 2012”, which introduces the most recent work of Lithuanian filmmakers. DVD collections will be on display, along with trailers to offer an enticing glimpse into what Lithuania short films have to offer.
“Lithuanian shorts” is a Lithuanian short film agency that executes a systematic and coordinated presentation of Lithuanian short films in foreign countries. As a multifunctional project, “Lithuanian shorts” leads the publication of the catalogue of the best Lithuanian shorts, in addition to a companion DVD collection. Moreover, “Lithuanian shorts” is an online platform (lithuanianshorts.com), built primarily as a database to store and stream short films made in Lithuania.
