Doc Alliance Academy Launches in Czech Republic

By

PRAGUE: Doc Alliance Academy, a new portal offering documentary films and teaching materials for secondary schools and universities is launching in the Czech Republic.

The international platform for the development of film literacy went into development in the spring of 2015 in collaboration with seven European documentary film festivals associated within Doc Alliance. This network includes Jihlava IDFF.

All of the films and materials are available for free. Doc Alliance Academy is currently offering nine Czech and international documentary films.

“Documentary films are no longer mere bearers of information. They enter the field of fiction films and bring variety to TV production. They stir discussion and ask questions. These are some of the reasons why they are suitable for the school curriculum,” said managing director Nina Numankadić.

On January 15, 2016, the first edition of the international Film Literacy Lab will be held in Prague. It will present seven case studies by experts on film education from seven European documentary film festivals, in order to inspire teachers and educational experts to use documentary films at school.

“Good films can bring many new impulses to the classroom. Understanding film and audiovisual media in general is one of the skills that are essential for understanding the world,” said project coordinator Natálie Ostrouchova.
