PRODUCTION: Tadeusz Krol Shooting Last Floor

By Katarzyna Grynienko

WARSAW: Polish filmmaker Tadeusz Krol started shooting his second film Last Floor on 23 October 2011 in Warsaw. Filming on the psychological thriller will continue until 15 December.

The young director is staying with the psychological thriller genre of his debut feature Recruited Love (2010), starring Robert Więckiewicz. Last Floor's screenplay is based on authentic events which took place several years ago in a small town in southern Poland. The main character is captain Derczyński, serving in an army unit stationed in the town. Married, has two sons (5 and 9), and a daughter (15). Loved by his wife and children, he is very devoted to his family. Deczynski’s views lie on conservative side. His attachment to traditional Polish cuisine, care for the physical fitness of his family, and promoting patriotic values, all seem to be absolutely harmless, if not funny. What began as a light comedy, has turned, due to an action plot, into a dark psychological thriller. We watch with awe as the captain transforms, falling deeper and deeper into the abyss of his obsession.

Tadeusz Król – born in 1963. Graduated in Polish Studies from the University of Łódź. Studied at the National Film School in Łódź and the Warsaw Theatre Academy. Directs theatre and teleplays. Creator of acclaimed documentaries and short features, producer of commercials and music videos.

Last Floor is produced by Sowa Film Media Productions, a Polish film and television production company with a budget of 2.8 million PLN (EUR 638 000). The grant application for this title was graded as "excellent" by the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) and the film received 1.8 million PLN for production financing.

The lead roles are played by Wojciech Zieliński (The Christening by Marcin Wrona), Janusz Chabior (My Name Is Ki by Leszek Dawid; Erratum by Marek Lechki), Joanna Orleańska, Przemysław Bluszcz (Made In Poland by Przemysław Wojcieszek), Aleksandra Popławska. The cinematographer credit goes to Tomasz Augustynek. Orleańska worked with the director on Recruited Love and was awarded for Best Female Debut at the 29th "Young and Cinema" Festival in Koszalin (www.mif.org.pl). The premiere of Last Floor is planned for the second half of 2012.
