PRODUCTION: Journey to Rome Moves to Postproduction

    KARLOVY VARY: Polish director Tomasz Mielnik has completed shooting on his debut film Journey to Rome, which was presented at the Karlovy Vary IFF Works in Progress.

    Mielnik is completing his studies at FAMU and the film will be a Polish/Czech coproduction from Mikulas Novotny of the young production company Background Films and Weronika Czolnowska of This email address is being protected from spambots.     The plot follows a shy young man who steals a painting from the National Gallery as he travels to Rome by train, meeting a series of eccentric characters along the way. The film, a “serious comedy,” received support from Czech Television. Jan Suster is the DoP and the cast includes Vaclav Hrzina, Miroslav Donutil as the detective on the trail of the thief, and Berenika Kohoutova.

    The producers are seeking festival opportunities and world sales.
