EU Parliament adopts Creative Europe

By

WARSAW: The European Parliament has adopted the new Creative Europe. The members of parliament voted 650 in favour, 32 against and there were 10 abstentions to approve the new programme which will be in effect from 2014-2020.

Creative Europe will lay down the framework for both the audiovisual and cultural programmes of the EU and replaces the current MEDIA and MEDIA Mundus programmes.  The programme still has to be approved by the Council of Europe before the end of the year after which the annual work programmes will be published followed by the first calls for grant proposals.

Creative Europe is scheduled to start in January 2014 and will have a tremendous impact on the audiovisual sector across Europe.  Creative Europe is budgeted at 1.46 billion EUR.
