LJUBLJANA: Slovenian director Janez Burger's drama Ivan is in its final stage of preproduction for a fall 2015 shoot.
The Slovenian producer Miha Cerncec (Staragara) is participating in this year's Cannes programme Producers on the Move with this mysterious drama about a young woman who is being evaluated as not being able to develop her maternal instincts. The seven week shoot is scheduled for September.
The central character is 25-year old Mara who is expecting to give birth to the child of her lover Rok, 50-years old magnate, accused of fraud. He persuades Mara to go to Italy with the baby to get his money, promising her bright future, but on the way she realises that eventually she will have to choose between her untrustworthy boyfriend and the newborn baby.
The film is produced by Andrej Černčec through Staragara with a budget of 1,460,000 EUR. The coproduction partners are the Croatian production company Propeler Film and the Serbian production company Sense Production. The project received 575,000 EUR in support from the Slovenian Film Center and technical support provided by Studio Viba Film in the amount of 191,000 EUR.
Shooting will take place in Ljubljana, Zagreb and Bolzano. The first version of the film is planned to be shown as a part of the rough cut boutique at the 2016 Sarajevo Film Festival, and the producers are aiming for a premiere at the 2017 Berlinale. The film will be available for foreign markets through Slingshot Films.
