    BRATISLAVA: Jan Hřebejk’s feature film The Teacher/ Učiteľka opened as second in Slovak cinemas on 21 July 2016, selling 15,489 tickets and cashing in 74,000 EUR gross.

    Forum Film s.r.o. released it in 72 cinemas, shortly after its screening in the Official Selection Competition of the 51st International Film Festival Karlovy Vary.

    The Teacher sold approximately 3,500 tickets less than Ice Age: Collision Course which is topping the weekend domestic box office.

    The Teacher is set in Czechoslovakia in the 80s, when a new corrupted teacher comes to a school  in the suburbs and turns the life of the students and the parents upside down. Petr Jarchovský wrote the script and popular Slovak actors Zuzana Mauréry, Peter Bebjak, Attila Mokos, Csongor Kassai or Zuzana Konečná play the main roles. 

    The Teacher is a Slovak/Czech coproduction and the director’s first Slovak majority film. It was produced by PubRes in coproduction with Offside Men, RTVS and the Czech Television. Financial support was also received from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and the State Cinematography Fund. LevelK is handling the sales.

    The Slovak film with the most successful opening is Michal Kollár’s The Red Captain/Červený Kapitán  (SOKOL KOLLAR, spol. s.r.o., Fog’n’Desire Films, Poland‘s MD4) with 36,328 admissions. The Red Captain was released by Forum Film Slovakia s.r.o.on 10 March 2016.
