PRAGUE: Petr Jákl's horror movie Ghoul will have its world premiere in 2D and 3D in the Czech Republic on 26 February 2015. It is a highly anticipated event as Jákl’s 2010 début feature, Kajínek produced by J.B.J. Film Production, had the biggest opening weekend in the country’s history.

TRIESTE: The 26th edition of Trieste Film Festival will take place from 16 to 22 January with 37 films screening in three competitive sections.

VALLETTA: Claudio Malaponti‘s E l’angelo partì da lei is the first result in Malta of the Euro Screen Interreg IVC, a project launched by the non-profit organization Fondazzjoni Temi Zammit together with European partners, in order to enhance collaboration between the film and the tourism sector.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian film has lost two of its leading filmmakers. Veteran film director and cinematographer Janos Zsombolyai (75) passed away on 4 January and acclaimed animator Andras Erkel (52) on 29 December.

With the start of the largest film festival in Lithuania approaching, it is time to introduce one of this year’s competition programmes. Titled “New Europe – New Names”, the programme promises to be notably diverse, showing films such as The Tribe from Ukraine, performed entirely in sign language, and the Lithuanian The Summer of Sangaile, which has been selected to compete at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

WARSAW: Pawel Pawlikowski's Ida has been nominated for BAFTA Film Awards in the Foreign Film category, and also for Cinematography (Lukasz Zal, Ryszard Lenczewski).

SOFIA: Isabel Coixet's Nobody Wants the Night will open the 65th Berlin International Film Festival on February 5. The Spanish-French-Bulgarian coproduction is competing for the Golden Bear.

VILNIUS: Eight films will compete in the New Europe – New Names section of the 20th Kino Pavasaris International Film Festival, one of the biggest film events in Lithuania running from 19 March to 2 April 2015.

The 65th Berlin International Film Festival will open on February 5 with the world premiere of Nobody Wants the Night, the most recent work by Spanish director Isabel Coixet. It will participate in the international competition.
