CLUJ-NAPOCA: Răzvan Georgescu’s long documentary Trading Germans / Paşaport de Germania investigates the biggest human trade scandal of the 20th century, when the Romanian communist regime systematically sold German minority citizens to Germany. The film will screen in the Romanian Days competition of Transilvania IFF (29 May-7 June 2015).

CLUJ-NAPOCA: Awarded Un Certain Talent in Cannes on 23 May 2015, the acclaimed writer/director Corneliu Porumboiu will screen The Treasure/Comoara in the Romanian Days at Transilvania IFF (29 May-7 June 2015).

BUCHAREST: Cinema City Romania, the first cinema operator in the Romania Cineworld Group and the second largest operator in Europe, opened a new multiplex in Bucharest with 14 screens including a 4DX cinema on 19 May 2015.

BUCHAREST: Andrei Creţulescu, whose short film Ramona premieres in the Critics’ Week section in Cannes on 19 May 2015, is preparing his debut feature, Charlton Heston, set for shooting in fall 2015.

BUCHAREST: The 19th European Film Festival, the oldest film festival in Bucharest, wrapped on 14 May 2015 after screening 56 films from 26 countries. The festival will now move on to four other Romanian towns.

BUCHAREST: The new feature of Cristi Puiu, Sierra-Nevada, shot in January through March 2015, has been pre-sold by Wild Bunch to Elle Driver for French distribution.

This month we speak with Ondrej Siroky, the programmer of Kino Dukla from Jihlava, Czech Republic. Kino Dukla, a new member of Europa Cinemas, is one of the venues of Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival. It has two screenings halls with 222 seats (162 and 60), and it usually has about 30 screening per week. Kino Dukla is the second ranked cinema in Jihlava after a multiplex and had 26,000 admissions in 2014 with each month doing better than the same month last year. That's great news for a cinema which celebrated its 100th anniversary on 1 May 2015.

BUCHAREST: Radu Muntean's psychological drama One Floor Below/Un etaj mai jos has been picked up for international sales by Films Boutique. The film will have its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section in the Cannes Film Festival (13-24 May 2015).
