“The question of whether the production will return to Croatia in the future will be decided once additional seasons are officially set by HBO. At that time, the production, along with HBO, will assess their location needs based on the scripts and storylines. HBO remains grateful to the Croatian Audiovisual Center (HAVC) and the Croatian crew for all of their continued support”, says the HBO statement.

The fifth season of the series will be shot in new locations in Dalmatia this fall using again Croatia’s Embassy Films as local partner.

The second and third season of the series were shot in Dubrovnik in the fall of 2011 and 2012. The shooting for the fourth season was longer and took place from 20 August to 20 September in Dubrovnik and from 20 September to 10 October 2013 in Split. Game of Thrones was one of the first beneficiaries of the cash rebate scheme implemented in Croatia in January 2012.
