PRAGUE: The Czech Film and Television Association FITES with the support of the town of Beroun awarded its top prize for best Czech feature film of 2014 to director Pavel Gőbl’s Expert Supervision of the Sunrise.

According to the jury, the film was awarded for its fresh acting performances like Vratislav Brabenec's and by its original minimalist language, which tells a story about the impossibility of retribution for crimes committed by communists.

In a year that saw just three films sweep most of the nominations for the Czech Lions, the awarding of Gőbl’s low budget feature might seem surprising, but FITES vice-president Ivan Biel said FITES liked to seek out films of quality that were sometimes overlooked by other organizations. Biel is one of the Czech Republic’s most successful documentary makers, who often produces films for UK TV channels as well as Czech projects.

FITES is the oldest and largest of the Czech Republic’s associations of film and television professionals. The awards ceremony took place 17 January 2015 in the town of Beroun. Czech veteran director Milos Forman was awarded a lifetime achievement award.
