FNE at Karlovy Vary IFF 2019: Twelve Slovak Films Screen at KVIFF

    KARLOVY VARY: Slovakia is sending films to the main competition section and the prestigious East of the West competition at the 59th Karlovy Vary IFF, which opens on 28 June 2019.

    Marko Skop’s Let There Be Light will have its world premiere in the main competition of the festival on 30 June. Pavol Pekarcik’s Slovak/Czech coproduction Silent Days premieres in the East of the West competition on 1 July. The film about hearing impaired Romany children was produced by Partizanfilm, Kaleidoscope, Slovak TV and the Czech company Skolfilm. It received support from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund.

    The Slovak film school short Kid directed by Gregor Valentovic will have its world premiere in the Future Frames selection on 2 July.

    Films from Juraj Jakubisko and Peter Solan will be screened in two retrospective sections: Liberated and Out of the Past.

    Old Timers by Martin Dusek and Ondrej Provaznik has been chosen as an official out-of-competition film, making its world premiere on 30 June. The film is a coproduction from the Czech company endorfilm, Slovakia’s Sentimentalfilm and the Czech TV, with support from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund. and the Czech Film Fund..

    The popular Slovak/Czech animated film Mimi & Lisa: Christmas Lights Mystery (Fool Moon) by Katerina Kerekesova and Ivana Sebestova screens in the People Next Door section. An additional four Czech/Slovak coproductions will be presented in the Czech Films 2018-2019 survey section.
