The drama about an elderly man and the son-in-law who accuses him of having a communist past was produced by Rudolf Biermann for his company InFilm (www.infilm.cz) and is distributed Bontonfilm (www.bontonfilm.cz).
As a part of its 100th anniversary, Prague cinema Lucerna (www.lucerna.cz/kino.php) will host Kawasaki´s world release, Lucerna´s executive Bedřich Němec announced. The movie will enter the domestic distribution on January 7, 2010.
The movie, based on the original screenplay by Hrebejk´s fellow screenwriter Petr Jarchovský which won the prestigous Sazka Award (www.sazka.cz ) earlier this year, was shot this summer in Prague and in Göteborg, Sweden, the city that inspired Jarchovský to write the story.
Hrebejk´s newest film is slightly different from his previous movies (usually comedies such as In Film's Shameless and Teddy Bear by producer Ondřej Trojan and his company Total HelpArt (www.tha.cz). "It's a family drama about a serious controversy between an elderly father and his son-in-law; a story of individual memory, guilt and punishment, about the conscience of everyone of us," Hřebejk said.
Slovak actor Ladislav Chudík plays the main character. Martin Huba, Lenka Vlasáková and Daniela Kolářová are also in the cast.
Biermann and Tomáš Hoffman are producing Kawasaki with their companies Infilm and Infinity (www.infinity.cz). Musician Aleš Březina composed the score. Distributor Bontonfilm (www.bontonfilm.cz) will release the movie in the Czech Republic.
