FNE at KVIFF 2011: French films occupy important spot at Czech box office.

    KARLOVY VARY: French films were the third most popular after USA and Czech productions at the Czech box office in 2010. French films accounted for 2.1% of the Czech box office after US films with 60.4% and Czech films with 34.6%. There were a total of 30 French films released in the Czech Republic in 2010 with 289, 394 admissions.

    Joel Chapron who is responsible for Central and Eastern Europe at Unifrance said: “Czechs have always loved French films and French cinema retains its important place in Czech distribution. Karlovy Vary has traditionally been a place where French films are showcased.”

    The top French film at the box office in the Czech Republic was Le Petit Nicolas directed by Laurent Tirard and distributed by Hollywood Classics in 25 prints 118 872 admissions so far to date since its release.

    French films continue to also be a favourite at KVIFF with nine French films including minority coproductions screening in the official programme this year.
