Estonia nominates I was here for foreign-language Oscar

By Martin Aadamsoo
I Was Here by Rene Vilbre was chosen as Estonia's entry to compete for this year's best foreign language Oscar award.
The film also featured in Karlovy Vary's East of the West programme.

The selection committee cited the unusual cohesiveness of the film's subject matter and form as one of the principal reasons for the choice. I Was Here premiered on September 11 and is still running commercially, during which time it has scored over 40,000 admissions which makes it set to reach this year's overall box office Top10 in Estonia.

I Was Here is Vilbre's second feature. It was scripted by Ilmar Raag, and co-produced by Riina Sildos from Amrion Productions, Estonia and Aleksi Bardy from Helsinki Filmi OY, Finland.
