Applications are Open for Hungarian Film Week

By Zsolt Gyenge

Hungarian Film Week (http://www.hungarianfilmweek.com) has announced a call for applications through 15 November 2010. For the first time, animation films are also eligible to apply and are expected to be part of the line-up of the festival.

The festival will take place 1-8 February 2011. Applications are available at the Hungarian Motion Picture Association (MMKA - http://mmka.hu/). Information is available only in Hungarian.

Productions can be nominated in the categories of feature film, television film, short and experimental film, animation film and non-fiction film.

Eligible films must be not older than two years and must qualify as Hungarian based by the rules of the National Film Office. Foreign language films are also accepted if they are considered a Hungarian production, but they need to have Hungarian subtitles. Those films that were previously nominated for HFW or which were re-edited or re-shot since then will not be accepted. A new requirement this year is that along with the official application form, a specific financial form also has to be completed and submitted to HFW.

In each category there will be a preselection process if the number of film applications demands it. The number of accepted films will be decided based on the number of nominated productions. The program of next year's HFW will consisted of a competition section, an out of competition section, informational screenings, and other complementary programs.
