FESTIVALS: Hungarian Film Week Scheduled for May

    BUDAPEST: After months of uncertainty the Hungarian Motion Picture Foundation (www.mmka.hu) and the Association of Hungarian Filmmakers announced on 1 March that the 42nd Hungarian Film Week will take place on 5-8 May 2011. The HFW was due to be held in January, but it was cancelled because of the insolvency of the MMKA, the main supporter of the event.

    The festival is now receiving financial support from the Ministry of National Resources (www.nefmi.gov.hu) to organize the HFW, but the Organizational Committee stated that they are negotiating with other sponsors as well. The members of the Committee are Krisztina Hermann secretary (Association of Hungarian Filmmakers), Gabor Garami main organizer (Cinema Film), Eva Vezer (Filmunio, www.filmunio.hu), Adel Rozsa-volgyi, Csaba Bereczki (international director of MMKA), Maria Sos, Tibor Kocsis, Gabor Ulrich (representatives of the film professionals), Laszlo Kresz (secretary of MMKA), Gyorgy Durst (representative of the Board of the MMKA).

    Altogether 410 Hungarian and coproduced titles were submitted to the HFW. The selection committee will assembly a competition programme from 28 features, 60 animations, 95 short films, 58 scientific-educational films, 147 documentaries and 22 television films.
