Defiance filming in Lithuania at end of August

Defiance, a U.S. film directed by Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond), will begin filming in Lithuania at the end August for six weeks. Daniel Craig, hot off his success in Casino Royale, will star. The film is produced by The Bedford Falls Company and Grosvenor Park Productions (www.grosvenorpark.com). The budget is estimated at €36 million.

The film is based on the real-life Bielski brothers. During World War II, these Polish Jews set up a village in the forest where 1,200 people were saved. The village also served as a base for underground resistance against the Nazi occupation.

Defiance will also star Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell, Alexa Davalos and Tomas Arana. The release date is unknown.
