Mission: Afghanistan is planned as a 13 episode series about the realities of military service abroad. The script is written by Jan Pawlicki and Mark Kreutz, who conducted extensive research on the topic and interviews with Polish soldiers who served in Afghanistan, as well as with their families.
The first part of the shoot for the show launched on 18 October 2011 at military bases located in Powidz and Węgrzyn. The set design included professional military equipment such as wolverine guns, hummers, a Hercules plane, specialist weaponry and grenades. All the actors had to complete military training conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Krzysztof Przepiórka, the former commander-in-chief of GROM, a legendary Polish SF Unit. The actors are supplied with authentic uniforms made for the Polish soldiers serving in Afghanistan. The first part of the shoot involved 120 cast and crew members. The military consultant for the first episode of the show is captain Artur Pinkowski.
The producer of the show is Akson Studio (www.akson-studio.pl), commissioned by Canal+.(www.canalpluscyfrowy.pl).
"An original, emotion provoking script, current topic that hasn't been taken upon by any other producer and finally the plot -- these are the factors that made us decide to make Mission: Afghanistan. We are convinced that the work of the director and cinematographer Grzegorz Kuczeriszka, supported by Marcin Starzecki, combined with a well thought out cast and the larg scale of the production will result in a show that will significantly stand out in the present television production market," said Beata Ryczkowska, the Executive Director of the Programming Department at Canal+ Cyfrowy.
The lead in the series is played by popular Polish actor Paweł Małaszyński, with a supporting cast that includes Tomasz Schuchardt, Eryk Lubos, Piotr Rogucki, Mikołaj Krawczyk, Sebastian Fabijański, Marcin Piętowski, Dawid Zawadzki and Piotr Michalski.
