Afterimages is centred around the life of avant-garde artist Władysław Strzemiński, who founded the art school in Lódź after the war. He was abused and persecuted by Poland's communist regime.“I will show in the film how this system led Strzemiński step by step to his grave,” said Andrzej Wajda during a special press conference held at NINATEKA audiovisual arts centre in Warsaw on 3 October 2015.
The shoot for Arterimages launched on 15 September and wrapped on 3 October 2015. The prinicipal photography took place mainly in Łodź, where most of the events described in the script take place.
The film is produced Michał Kwieciński and his company Akson Studio with a planned budget of 9.8 m PLN with 4 m PLN
production financing from the Polish Film Institute. The film was shot with logistic support from Lodz Film Commission.
The leading role is played by one of the most popular Polish actors Bogusław Linda. "This project doesn't have a typical script, it is a sort of an impression about a man of unbendable perseverance who was forced to live in terrible times" said Linda. The cast icludes Bronisława Zamachowska and Zofia Wichłacz. The script was written by Andrzej Mularczyk and the DoP for this project is Wajda's long-time collaborator, internationally recognized cinematographer Pawel Edelman.
The premiere of the film is planned for 3 March 2016, Andrzej Wajda's 90th birthday anniversary.
