The Mute is set in the Middle Ages. Two men come to a pagan land - one to bring Christianity, the other to find his way of living. They choose two different ways of reaching the pagans. In the fight between dialogue and force, one of them will die. The script is a collaboration between Bartosz Konopka, Przemysław Nowakowski and Anna Wydra.
Anna Wydra is producing through Otter Films in coproduction with Andrzej Białas and Rafał Bubnicki through Odra Film and Jurgen Willocx and Melissa Dhondt through the Belgian company Earlybirds Films. The film was shot in Ustka and Kudowa-Zdrój between August and September 2017.
The project was developed during the EAVE workshops and received the Krzysztof Kieślowski Award for the Best Script at the 2012-2013 edition of the ScripTeast workshop. The budget is 2 m EUR. The film received financial support from the Polish Film Institute, Eurimages and Screen Flandres.
