Production: Mother Joanne of the Cats begins filming

    Matka Joanna Od Kotów (Mother Joanne of the Cats) the debut feature from Paweł Sala, noted playwright and two-time Hartley-Merril Polish competition finalist, began filming June 18 in Poland.

    The film will be based on a true story of two brothers who brutally murdered their mother.


    The cinematographer is Mikołaj Łebkowski, whose credits include the Emmy nominated Magical Tree directed by Andrzej Maleszka. The music will be composed by Marcin Krzyżanowski and sound is by Wacław Plikowski winner of the Eagle Polish Film Prize for the best sound in Little Moscow.

    The movie is produced by Sławomir Rogowski from Zespół Filmowy Rozwój. Executive producer is Adam Sokołowski from DeLord (www.delord.pl), the co-production company. The producer told FNE that Matka Joanna Od Kotów has a budget of 2.2 million PLN (€484,000) with a 1.5 million (€330 000) funding from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl). The project had already attracted interest from foreign distributors and festivals. The Polish premiere of the picture is planned for 2010.
