New website promotes Lodz as film center

By

A new Polish website has been launched to promote Łódź as an ideal place for filmmakers. The creators hope the website, called Action!Lodz (www.actionlodz.com), will bring new productions to the city that inspired both David Lynch and Peter Greenaway.

For years Łódź has been considered the Polish "film city," and it is indeed one of the most active movie centers in Central Europe. A group of young graduates and other backers of the city decided to set up the website to publicize its cinematographic potential.

The Action!Lodz website was created to increase interest in the city, as well as in the whole country, among movie producers from Poland and abroad. The project is especially timely as plans are finalized for the creation of a €100 million "Cinema City" complex on the site of a former military airport about 80 km south of Warsaw,

"We would like to create a website not only for professionals but cinema lovers as well," Małgorzata Wabińska, one of the project organizers, told FNE.

The website contains a rapidly expanding database of contacts to companies that can provide equipment as well as production and post-production services for films made in Łódź. It also presents a variety of shooting locations.

For film enthusiasts, the site includes a section offering up-do-date information on film developments in Łódź.
