Gdynia Polish Film Festival Competition spotlight: Wonderful Summer

    Gdynia competition film Wonderful Summer is a dark romantic comedy set against the world of funeral services, where the real world mixes with the mystical beyond.

    {mosimage}The plot follows the typical outline of a romantic comedy but the setting of funeral homes and cemetaries gives it a dark atmosphere. The lead character Kika has a peculiar gift: she can communicate with the ghost of her dead mother. The mother visits her on a mission to make sure her daughter does not miss out on true love for the boy next door. The ghost will leave only when Kika makes the right choice.

    Wonderful Summer is directed by Ryszard Brylski, an accomplished Polish television and film director, internationallly known for his movie Żurek (2003).

    {mosimage}The film was shot on location in summer 2009. The producer is Opus Film (www.opusfilm.com). The 3.8 million PLN budget includes 1.8 million from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) and 400,000 PLN from the City of Łódź.

    The international premiere of the film will take place during the FPFF in Gdynia and the theatrical release is planned for fall 2009.
