FNE at TIFF: Romanian Days - Digging for Life

    {mosimage}BUCHAREST: In Doina groparilor/Digging for Life Pavel Cuzuioc describes the daily life of a group of gravediggers at the Doina cemetery near Chişinău, the capital city of the Republic of Moldova, while examining traditional preparations for death and burial in the Republic of Moldova.

    The film is a 55 min documentary Cuzuioc directed, wrote and shot for HBO Central Europe (www.hbo-centraleurope.com ). Doina groparilor/Digging for Life is a Zenobia Film production (www.zenobiafilm.com ), presented by HBO Central Europe Original Programming and produced by Carmen Harabagiu, Aurelian Nica and Andrei Creţulescu. Shooting took place between October 2010 and May 2011. The film premiered on HBO Romania (www.hbo.ro ) on September 29.

    Born in Chişinău in 1978, Pavel Cuzuioc studied law in Bucharest from 1995 to 1999 and film directing in Vienna from 2003 to 2006. He currently owns the video production studio Zenobia Film in Romania and works for Autlook Filmsales (www.autlookfilms.com ) in Austria.
