RTL II to Launch in Romania

    BUCHAREST: TV channel RTL II, airing entertainment and movies with the original content produced entirely in Hungary and in the Hungarian language, will begin broadcasts in Romania by the end of September 2012.

    RTL II is managed by S.C. Cable Channels SRL Bucureşti whose shareholder is the Hungarian RTL Klub (www.rtlklub.hu). It received a satelite licence from the National Audiovisual Council of Romania (www.cna.ro) on 17 July 2012.

    The annual budget is 4.5 m EUR.

    RTL Klub is the market leader in Hungary, with 40% of the TV market in Hungary overall. In August 2011 the German television group RTL (www.rtl.de) acquired an additional 31% of the shares of the Hungarian commercial station RTL Klub (www.rtlklub.hu), for a 98% stake in the station.
