Inspired by real events that took place in South Korea in 2005, the film written by Andrei Huțuleac follows a woman (Andreea Grămoșteanu) whose relatively calm existence as a bank employee is shattered by her decision to adopt a stray dog. When the dog regurgitates in the metro and a teenager records the incident, chaos runs wild.
The film is produced by Dan Chișu through DaKINO Productions in coproduction with Andrei Gheorghe through DIUD, with Andrei Huțuleac as associate producer. It is supported by the Romanian Film Centre (CNC) and the Romanian National Television (TVR). The project was sponsored by Heineken Romania and Superbet.
The budget was approximately 700,000 EUR services included, Andrei Huțuleac told FNE.
The film was shot in July 2019 during 18 days and using 28 locations, over 80 actors and 300 extras.
The date for the theatrical release in Romania and the name of the distributor have not been decided yet.
The sophomore feature by Andrei Huțuleac, The Wishing Tree: Childhood Memories / Copacul dorințelor: Amintiri din copilărie, coproduced by Colorbitor, Viva la Vidra, Chainsaw Europe, will screen out of competition at TIFF, and will be released in Romania in October 2021. All the revenues will be donated mostly to incurable patients from the Hospice Casa Speranței. This fantasy stars Teodor Corban, Matei Dima, Micutzu Cosmin Nedelcu, Theo Costache, Pavel Bârsan, Ada Condeescu and Ioana Anastasia Anton.
Andrei Huțuleac received the Gopo Award for Best Short Fiction Film in 2020 for Havana Cuba. The film also won a Special Mention at Emir Kusturica’s Kustendorf International Film and Music Festival.
