Among the films in the Official Competition are the Croatian/Serbian coproduction The Uncle directed by David Kapac and Andrija Mardesic, the Czech production BANGER directed by Adam Sedlák, as well as the Moldovan/Romanian coproduction Carbon by Ion Borș, which is the first Moldovan production entering the TIFF’s main competition.
“Although the burning social themes are inevitable (class differences, inter-ethnic conflicts, migration, drug use, prostitution, etc.), the filmmakers achieve the increasingly rare performance in today’s cinema of not abusing them, creating, with an admirable economy of means, subversive stories of great impact and a sophisticated narration, whose real stakes lie elsewhere”, Mihai Chirilov, TIFF's Artistic Director, said in a statement.
The Romanian Days (Zilele Filmului Românesc) selection is to be announced soon.
The Transilvania International Film Festival is organised by the Association for the Promotion of Romanian Cinema and the Association Transilvania Film Festival.
