Lăzurean-Gorgan told FNE that the grant from the CNC covers approximately 30% of the budget of 830,000 euro. The film is a co-production with the Dutch company, Kaliber Film (www.kaliberfilm.nl). A German and an Austrian co-producer are also interested. The project will apply for a MEDIA (http://ec.europa.eu/culture/media/index_en.htm) grant in November and also to the Nederlands Film Funds (www.filmfund.nl).
Domestic is a black comedy involving three families joined together in five stories about people and domestic animals. The interwined subplots will show how everyone influences everyone else's life, and that sometimes people eat the animals they love, while the animals' love for people is unconditional.
The project was pitched at Cinelink (http://www.sff.ba/en/cinelink) at the Sarajevo Film Festival 2010, and is now headed to Connecting Cottbus (www.connecting-cottbus.de) and to the script development workshop Surces 2 (www.sources2.de). Sitaru received a DAAD Grant for his film The Cage at the Berlinale Shorts in February 2010, enabling him to spend three months in Berlin writing the third draft of the script and consulting with the script consultant Franz Rodenkirchen.
Sitaru will work again with DOP Adrian Silişteanu, and also with the actors Adrian Titieni and Clara Vodă. The premiere is planned for 2012.
