BELGRADE: Serbian director Miroslav Lekić is currently shooting his seventh feature film Russian Consul / Ruski konzul, which is supported by Film Center Serbia.

The script is based on the bestselling novel by Vuk Drašković under the same title, and to a certain extent it builds on the novel/film The Dagger / Nož (1999, also directed by Moroslav Lekić and produced by Monte Royal Pictures). Russian Consul, which was written by Lekić, wants to help in understanding the complex Serbian-Albanian relations while avoiding commonplaces and stereotypes.

The main cast consists of Nebojša Dugalić, Žarko Laušević, Paulina Manov, Konstantin Fidanov, Svetozar Cvetkovic, Visar Viška and Danica Radulović.

The film is produced by Visionteam and Telekom Srbija. Dragan Đurković is the producer and Jovana Mijović the line producer. Film Center Serbia supported the project in late December 2018 with a production grant of approximately 307,000 EUR / 36 m RSD. The budget has not been disclosed.

The principal shooting commenced on 15 May and is expected to wrap by 13 July 2023. The shooting is taking place on locations in Belgrade and the Serbian towns of Požarevac and Mladenovac.

The premiere is expected for the first months of 2024.
