TRENSIANSKE TEPLICE: Slovakia will have a domestic fairytale in cinemas in October 2014 with the premiere of Laska na Vlasku, a 15th century romance directed by Mariana Cengel Solcanska, and the first Slovak fairytale made in almost 15 years.

The press conference which took place at Art Film Fest which runs through 27 June, introduced a film with high production qualities produced on a budget of 1.2 m EUR and filmed on location in rural, mountainous Slovakia and at the RTVS studios. Producer Milan Stranava of JMB Film & TV Production told FNE that the film received a grant of 500,000 EUR from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund. The film is a coproduction with public broadcaster Slovak TV and will be distributed by Continental Film.

The DoP is Ivan Finta and music (which features a title song performed in English) is by Vladimir Martinka. The film was shot over 31 days.

The cast includes Samuel Spisak playing double roles of a young prince (inspired by a historical character) and a look-alike peasant; Celeste Buckingham as a princess; and Judit Bardos as a young villager who becomes the love interest of the prince. Czech actor Tomas Hanak plays the king. When the prince and the peasant meet coincidentally one day in the village, the two decide to change places for a day. The next day the two are unable to convince their peers of their plot, and the two are trapped in their respective roles until the prince finally returns to the castle where he and his new “brother” continue to stay together.
