It all started years ago. Kids were making their own boards, building improvised skate objects, learning their first tricks and smuggling skate goods from abroad. It was a time of their first competitive victories and widespread popularisation of skateboarding. The first generations of local skateboarders rode through an exciting historical era: from Yugoslavia’s break-up, conflicts and the transitional period, to the beginnings of capitalism in all its glory.
“Deckument is a story of endless enthusiasm, a story of struggling for survival and the advancement of local skateboarding,” says the team of young interdisciplinary artists including Miha Brodarič, Matej Lavka, DoP Andro Kajzer and video artist and illustrator Nina Vrhovec.
The film was produced by Miha Brodarič through Zavod Multipraktik and was supported by the Slovenian Film Center. “The total budget was 54,500 EUR. Zavod Multipraktik provided 24,000 EUR, the Slovenian Film Center 27,000 EUR and Kino Šiška 3,500 EUR by organising the premiere,” producer Miha Brodarič told FNE
The film was shot between February 2014 and May 2015. The premiere took place in Ljubljana at Kino Šiška on 24 October 2015, and after that the film was screened in many cultural centers and also in some small cinemas and various alternative venues around Slovenia.
