Far away so close - >globalEAST< goes South America

This year, the search for Eastern European influences on global cinema leads the >globalEAST programme section to South America and the Caribbean, as well as to Spain and Portugal. Th rather unusual cinematic itinerary presents some discoveries and familiar aspects. From everyday stories to historical topics – for the first time, extraordinary and fascinating insights into the relationships between Eastern European and Ibero-American cinema can be gained.

Helke Misselwitz - work and impact

No other film has accompanied the director and university professor as "WINTER ADÉ" (1988). Filmed shortly before the upheaval, Helke Misselwitz drives through a country that is doomed, portrays women who imagine their lives differently. "The aim was to learn about how people have become the way they are and what prevents them from really being themselves.", she later describes the starting point of her work. A claim, which she has remained ever since. On the occasion of her 65th anniversary the FilmFestival Cottbus honors Helke Misselwitz' work with a retrospective, shows a selection of documentary and feature films and presents productions of her former students such as Grimme Prize winner Sabine Michel. Helke Misselwitz will be present in Cottbus.

Extremely danceable - "Gassenhauer" by Berlinski Beat

Music that sounds as if Seeed and Goran Bregovic come together to reinvent the hits of the 20's ? Similar or totally different that is the band called Berlinski Beat! A Polish bagpipe player, a German tuba player, a Czech trumpeter, a singer whose ancestor is a Gypsy King, a DJ from Bosnia, drummers and percussionists from East and West Berlin. With the explosive combination of street music, Berlin dialect and club sounds the festival guests on the final party will dance till the morning: in concert with their debut album "popular song" and then as a DJ set.
