FINNISH FILM FOUNDATION APPOINTS TWO NEW FILM COMMISSIONERS

The Finnish Film Foundation has appointed Mr Hannu Tuomainen and Ms Marjo Valve as the new film commissioners. They are jointly responsible for the production support of the feature films and will start in their new positions on the first of January, 2013. In addition, Hannu Tuomainen will be responsible for the support for the international minority co-productions.

Hannu Tuomainen has worked as a scriptwriter, as a director and as a producer of several Finnish films including Niko & The Way to the Stars, One-Way Ticket to Mombasa and Tommy and the Wildcat. Marjo Valve comes to the Foundation from the North Karelia University of Applied Sciences where she has worked in the Centre for Creative Industries. She also currently chairs the National Council for Cinema. Valve’s previous experience in the industry includes working for example as a production manager as well as a scriptwriter and a director.

Tuomainen and Valve will succeed Jukka Asikainen and Kaisu Isto, who will end their five year period as film commissioners in the end of December, 2012.

"I am very pleased with the current success of Finnish film. The domestic market share exceeds expectations and shows strong indication that this year we will reach a new record for domestic admissions. At the same time Finnish film is also getting more international. The current situation, to which Jukka Asikainen and Kaisu Isto have on their part contributed, gives new film commissioners Marjo Valve and Hannu Tuomainen a solid base to continue the success story of Finnish film, "says Finnish Film Foundation CEO Irina Krohn.

The Finnish Film Foundation supports and promotes Finnish film. The Foundation supports Finnish film production, distribution and exhibition as well as promotes Finnish film in Finland and abroad. The resources of the Finnish Film Foundation come from the Lottery funds.
