A small Bulgarian village by the Turkish border has found itself in the middle of a European crisis, as at nights thousands of asylum seekers sneak over the border. Ivan, the local postman, decides to run for mayor and bring the dying village back to life by welcoming refugees. His opponents want to close their eyes, close down the border and reintroduce communism. As the campaign goes on, Ivan soon learns that while good intentions are not enough, even the smallest deeds matter.
For the last few months Tonislav and editor Nikolai Hartmann (DE) have been working on “The Good Postman” at the Prague-based DOK.Incubator workshop, crafting the story and building unflinching portraits of the fascinating characters. Besides the dramaturgy, the producer Kaarle Aho (FI) has personalised a distribution and marketing strategy for its upcoming release.
Now the film is close to its release and will be presented at the DOK.Incubator Preview 2016, a prestigious showcase of eight international documentaries, hosted at Nordisk Panorama in Malmö, Sweden. The workshop presents a collection of high-end cinematic films suitable for international festivals, theatrical and TV release, just before their premiere.
Among them is “ULTRA” (HU), the incredible tale of the humans who compete in a near-impossible challenge of running 250 kilometres within 36 hours - and their motivations behind the race. In “Guidance Through The Black Hole” (HR, UK) we follow Sule, a down-and-out Bosnian poet in London who is given one last chance to redeem himself.
DOK.Incubator has brought one third of its films to premiere at IDFA, three at Sundance, and its past films include European Film Academy Award and Emmy nominees. The Preview at Nordisk Panorama will be one of the last opportunities to meet the filmmakers and have a look at the projects just before their release!
