"Abandoned Village" is the debut animated film directed by Mariam Kapanadze, which was created in the film studio "Kvali XXI" and Filmcenter “Georgian Film-Abkhazeti" and is a funded project of the Georgian National Film Center Animation Production Competition.
The film won an award from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan at the NEW CHITOSE International Animated Film Festival in Hokkaido, Japan on November 23. The animated film deserved the following evaluation: “The film, which captures the shifting landscape of a desolate village at a fixed point, winds out of the screen as well.
In an animated film, the viewer will not be capable to understand the time frame in which the action takes place. For example, it could be a one-week or a 200-year period. This is the director's debut work. She is an actress of "Budurgana Gagra" of the Georgian State Shadow Theater.
The European premiere of the animated film will take place at the International Animation Festival "ANIMATEKA" in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on November 30.
