Honey is a third part of the Yusuf trilogy (after Egg and Milk), which shows a childhood of a boy and his first year of school. His father, Yakup, is a beekeeper who works deep in the forest, which for Yusuf is a fairyland.
This is a last part of the trilogy which is autobiographical in some measure. I was like Yusuf, a boy which had problems with reading and dreamed about a school prize, which never was on his reach. But the school is only a background of this story. The most important is what's happening between Yusuf and his father. Through their relations I tried to say something important about a human being. And also about a nature, which a man should coexist with. In my film a forest remind us where we came from and who we are.
Semih Kaplanoglu
Beautiful meditation on familial love and the mysteries of nature.
The Hollywood Reporter
Beautiful, poetic and very well related.
El País
The movie has the same power like stories whisperd to the ear. Warm, close, important.
