BUCHAREST: Closer to the Moon, Nae Caranfil’s first English language film, was chosen Best Romanian film in 2014 by Romanian film journalists and critics. The ceremony took place on 30 January 2015.

TBILISI: Acclaimed director, producer and screenwriter George Ovashvili plans to shoot his next project, Khibula, at the end of 2015. He is now in the financing stage.

BUCHAREST: Radu Jude's historical film Aferim!, selected for the competition section of Berlinale, will be sold internationally by the German company Beta Cinema. Its press screening and world premiere are set for 11 February.

BUCHAREST: The 9th edition of Gopo Awards gala will take place on 30 March 2015. The application process was launched on 26 January 2015 and will wrap on 6 February 2015.

BUCHAREST: Radu Jude's ambitious historical drama Aferim! was selected for Berlinale's Competition (5-15 February 2015), two years after Peter Călin Netzer's Child's Pose (Parada Film), also produced by Ada Solomon, was awarded the Golden Bear. Aferim! is a Romanian/Bulgarian/Czech coproduction.

This month we speak to Paul Staufenbiel, the head of Kino Kuvakukko from Kuopio, Finland. Located in the centre of the town, the cinema theatre was founded in 1939 and is owned by the City of Kuopio. Kuvakukko provides a variety of films and is also home to festivals, movie clubs, archive film classics, seminars etc.
