WARSAW: New President of Polish public television, Jacek Kurski, decided that TVP Info will start emitting a decoded signal through Hot Bird satellite, which expands its reach to Europe, South Africa and part of Asia.

WARSAW: Poland saw its best year in 2015 with over 44.5 m admissions in cinemas. Maciej Dejczer’s comedy Letters to Santa 2 was the most popular title in 2015 selling 2,874 m tickets.

WARSAW: Kinga Dębska’s new comedy/drama These Daughters of Mine had 350,000 admissions in its first ten days, a very strong result for Poland.

WARSAW: An anonymous bidder paid 2,962 EUR / 13,000 PLN at a charity auction in order to be an extra in the new film by Jacek Bromski. Roman Polański's Bitter Moon held the previous record.

WARSAW: Jacek Kurski has been appointed President of public Polish television TVP replacing former president Janusz Daszczyński . The appointment follows a controversial amendment to the media bill by Polish government which has been dominated by the conservative Law and Justice party since elections in October 2015.

WARSAW: Małgorzata Szumowska’s Body and A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence by Roy Andersson received Golden Tapes awards for best films screened in Polish cinemas in 2015. Golden Tapes are awarded by the Polish section of FIPRESCI, a member of the Polish Filmmakers Association.

WARSAW: The Polish Film Institute has decided to allocate 8 m PLN of production funding especially for Polish companies engaged in international projects as minority co-producers.

The Polish film industry had a great year with an Oscar for Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida and strong film production supported by the Polish Film Institute (PISF), which celebrated its tenth anniversary. Poland signed new coproduction agreements but was still waiting for a tax incentive scheme, which is a priority for the new Director of PISF, Magdalena Sroka appointed in August 2015. Domestic romantic comedy Letters to Santa 2 topped the admissions top ten in 2015.

WARSAW: The Polish Film Institute announced the dates for applications in 2016 and a new list of experts who will judge the projects.
