„Into the magic world of cinema“– 5th edition of Giffoni Macedonia

    The 5th edition of “Giffoni Macedonia” Youth Film Festival will run October 18-23 in Skopje under the motto: “Into the magic world of cinema”. The opening ceremony took place on October 18 at Cinema Millennium at 07:30 pm, followed by the Macedonian premiere of the feature film “Hunting flies” by young, Norwegian-schooled director Izer Aliu.

    This year’s international jury of “Giffoni Macedonia” consists of more than 700 youth coming from 13 different European countries, aged 10-18. Divided into three age groups, the jury members will get to watch 15 feature films in official competition and a number of short and documentary films, in the end casting their vote to their favorite in each of the categories. The juniors (aged 10-13) will participate in festival activities taking place at the Cinematheque of Macedonia while the cadets (aged 13-17) and seniors (aged 17-18+) will join in the activities taking place at the Youth Cultural Center (MKC).


    Despite the rich festival programme, the festival will also incorporate 11 film, theater, music and dance workshops, meetings with famous authors and actresses and many more accompanying activities. This programme is envisioned as an encouragement to the youth to join in open discussions to boost their creative growth, as a way to create unique moments and new friendships among students from several schools from Macedonia and 13 European countries. This type of multicultural exchange of experiences undoubtedly paves the way for the festival participants to become and continue to be film & culture lovers.


    “Giffoni Macedonia” Youth Film Festival dates back from 2013, as a result of the signed agreement on cooperation between the Macedonian Film Agency and Claudio Gubitosi, director and founder of the festival “Giffoni Experience”-Italy. “Giffoni Macedonia” is in organization of the Association on media literacy-Planet-M. Traditionally, the festival chooses a group of young participants from Macedonia who are given an opportunity to attend the largest youth film festival “Giffoni Experience” – Italy and other international film festivals.


    The realization of the festival is organized with the support of the Macedonian Film Agency, the Macedonian Ministry of culture and Ministry of education and science, the Italian Embassy in Macedonia, Cinematheque of Macedonia, Youth cultural center, the City of Skopje and Karposh Municipality.
