The upcoming 4to edition of Cinema Parallels film festival takes place in Banja Luka, Bosnia-Herzegovina from September 6th to 9th

    The theme for the 2023 edition is Documenting Realities: The Facto Fiction Films.

    Banja Luka, September, 2023. We are thrilled to announce the upcoming 4to edition of Cinema Parallels film festival, taking place in Banja Luka from September 6th to 9th at the Gradsko pozorište Jazavac. With additional master class venues at the Faculty of Arts, University of Banja Luka, this year's festival promises to be a captivating exploration of the cinematic realm.

    The theme for the 2023 edition is Documenting Realities: The Facto Fiction Films. The festival will delve into the intriguing relationship between performance and the fictional elements within cinema. Cinema Parallels presents films that initiate thought-provoking conversations about the interplay between physicality and narrative, both in real-life settings and on fictional stages.

    Documenting Realities: The Facto Fiction Films underscores the significance of environments, landscapes, and locations in juxtaposition with characters and performers within the films. From direct cinema to re-enactments, experimental ethnography, and virtual realms, the festival showcases a spectrum of cinematic approaches.

    This year's selection includes films of: Nikoloz Bezhanishvil. Rodrigo Reyes, Magnus Gertten,  Srdan Keča, Peter Kerekes, Ivanna Todorovic, Karla Crnčević, Mariana Rivera, Vuk Radjen, Tamara Maksimović, Stefan Tomić,  Igor Đurić and Sara Radusinović.

    About Cinema Parallels: Cinema Parallels is a film festival and an educational platform, dedicated to documentary-media art. Focused on emerging filmmakers from Western Balkan countries, the festival celebrates the diverse identities of the region. We are committed to promoting independent and innovative films that stimulate thought, foster reflection, and inspire action within our community.

    Highlights of the Festival:

    • In-depth Conversations: Following screenings, engaging discussions and panels will provide audiences with insights into the creative process and narrative strategies employed in the featured films.
    • Master Classes: At the Faculty of Arts, University of Banja Luka, attendees will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts through master classes that offer practical insights and skill-building.
    • Diverse Program: From international features to regional shorts and immersive installations, the festival showcases a rich variety of cinematic expressions.

    Cinema Parallels is organized by Video Kabinet with the support of the Audio-Visual Center of Republika Srpska, The city of Banja Luka in collaboration with Jazavac Teather, The Faculty of Arts of the University of Banja Luka.
