Puzzle was supported by the Bulgarian National Centerand is a national coproduction between Staikov’s ILS films, Bulgarian National Television (www.bnt.bg) and Nu Boyana (www.nyboyana.com).

For the male lead, the director cast Assen Blatechki, a popular actor who takes on his first major role. Stanimira Koleva, an international fashion model, having worked in Milan, Paris and New York, won the female lead from a field of 60 actresses. After a brief appearance in the TV serial Glass Home, Koleva makes her film debut in Puzzle.

The shooting took place at 45 locations with a cast that included 1000 extras. Preceded by an impressive PR campaign launched on the internet in March 2012, the film opened in cinemas at the end of September.

In a statement about the film the director said, “We are all like pieces in a Jigsaw Puzzle, where one piece only fits another particular piece, so that you get the Picture right. Often, however, fate chooses to place a different piece instead – looking almost the same, yet not quite… and there always remains an empty space in-between. So can fate actually be rewritten?”
