FNE at Golden Rose FF 2016: Prize Winners

    VARNA: Ralitza Petrova’s debut feature Godless won the Golden Rose Award of the 34th Golden Rose National Film Festival (19 to 25 of September 2016). Ralitza Petrova was also awarded best director, while Irena Ivanova was awarded best actress.

    Krum Rodriguez was awarded best cinematographer both for Godless and for Glory. Scriptwriters Petar Valchanov, Kristina Grozeva and Decho Taralezhkov were also awarded for Glory, while the city of Varna gave the same film its Special Award.

    Vladimir Petev’s Dog received the Golden Rose for best short film. This year, the jury decided to encourage more than one short film and gave three additional Special Mentions.

    Best actor award was shared between Dimitar Nikolov for his role in Hristo and Ivan Nalbantov for his role in Godless.


    The Audience Award went to Ivaylo Penchev’s Holiday Makers. The Jury also decided to give posthumously an Honourable Special Prize to composer Bojidar Petkov for his music for Memories of Fear and his complete works.


    The National Jury presided by Kamen Kalev was composed of: Stefan Ivanov, Peter Dundakov, Teodora Duhovnikova  and Borislav Kolev. A total of 12 feature films and 22 short films competed in two official programmes of the festival.
