Colette, Don Juan Charm Czech Audiences

    PRAGUE: Jiri Menzel’s Don Juan story Womanizer took the top spot on the Czech box office, while director Milan Cieslar’s English language bow Colette remained in the top ten after opening in first place at the beginning of September 2013.

    The Menzel comedy, distributed by Bontonfilm and produced by MediaPro Pictures had 38,064 admissions in its opening weekend and box office of 4,745,795 CZK making it the second biggest opening of a Czech film in 2013. Bontonfilm opened the film simultaneously in Slovakia, where it bowed in fifth place, with 2,135 admissions and box office of 10,213 EUR.

    Colette, produced by Cieslar’s company Happy Celluloid ,was still in the fifth spot on the weekend of 26 September. The WWII concentration camp drama based on a story by Arnost Lustig is notable for a strong performance by Jiri Madl, also seen in the Czech filmed TV series Borgia. The film, distributed by Bioscop/AQS has 45,041 admissions and box office of 5,793,703 CZK to date.
