JIHLAVA: Czech TV general director Petr Dvorak and ARTE Commissioning Editor Madeleine Avramoussis were at the Jihlava documentary festival to announce the launch of an association agreement between the two TV stations.

The two stations will each put 100,000 EUR toward joint TV coproductions. Jan Maxa, CTV’s director of development, told FNE that there had been some discussions about feature film coproductions, but the funding will most likely be directed toward documentary production at this time.

The agreement is part of CTV’s new outreach efforts. Dvorak told FNE: “We have an agreement with Slovak TV and we are talking with Germany and Austria.” Likely partners are public broadcasters ORF in Austria and ZDF in Germany.

Czech TV is the largest coproducer of documentaries in the Czech Republic. Its documentaries also stretch across borders, with recent examples include two coproductions with Poland: The Return of Agnieszka H. about the Polish film director Agnieszka Holland who studied film at Prague’s FAMU film school, and Our Waszek about Poland’s view of the Czech President and dissident Vaclav Havel.
