After a year of negotiations, Jiří Vejdělek, the director of the hit Czech comedy Women in Temptation (2010) has sold the English language remake rights to British producer Gareth Unwin from Bedlam Productions.

With over million viewers, the film topped the Czech box office in 2010, recording more admissions than Avatar or Harry Potter winning a best supporting actress Czech Lion for Eliska Balzerova. Production companies from several countries, including Bollywood, were interested in a remake, before Vejdělek decided to sign the contract with the producer of Oscar winner King´s Speech, Gareth Unwin.

Women in Temptation, produced by Tomas Hoffman from Infinity Prague is a story of Helena, a recognized expert on marital problems, who one day finds herself in a similar situation to her patients. Her husband is caught in flagrante with a younger woman and Helena stands helplessly on the threshold of a new life. Here 20-year-old daughter wants a mother’s support as she struggles with her first true love. Helena´s mother, a former actress, offers a helping hand with the advice that Helena replace her husband with a better one. It seems impossible, but to the surprise of the women, they find men worthy of the plunge headlong into romance.

The British producer will retain the original story but plans to adapt the script to reflect the local reality and hopes to attract a strong British cast. The British version would be the first English language remake of a Czech film. The production should begin in 2014.

Jiří Vejdělek´s latest film Něžné vlny (Tender Waves) is now enjoying a successful run in Czech cinemas and he is already preparing another comedy.
